Biography

Alexander Schwennicke is a PhD candidate in Classical Philology. Originally from Berlin, Germany, Alexander received a B.A. in Classics from Magdalen College, Oxford (2016), and a JD from Harvard Law School (2022). He is interested in ancient law (mainly Roman), Latin literature of all periods, textual criticism, lexicography, as well as classical reception (German and Russian). Alexander's dissertation project, Imagining Legal Change in the Roman World, explores ancient histories of law, i.e., the ways in which legal and lay writers in antiquity thought about the origin, development, and organization of law. In AY 2022–23, Alexander will be on leave to clerk on the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit.
