BIOGRAPHY

Shalen is a banking and finance professional who is working to apply his skills to fields of healthcare, international development, social innovation and technology. He is currently pursuing a Masters in Public Health (MPH) at Harvard, where he is exploring the intersection of these interests.

Shalen spent 7 years working in Leveraged Finance (Leveraged Buyout and Acquisition Financing) at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation in Singapore, having previously worked at BNP Paribas, Singapore and Deloitte, London. He is a UK qualified chartered accountant (ACA), and holds a Master of Finance from the University of Cambridge and a BSc. in Mathematics and Statistics from the London School of Economics.

In 2012, a chance encounter led Shalen to incorporate a Singapore-based non-profit, Global Clinic, to help facilitate and fundraise for surgical and primary care medical outreach missions across Asia, carried out by a community of dedicated Singaporean medical specialists. This window into the field of Global Health, over 5 years of volunteering for Global Clinic, laid the foundation in for Shalen to make a career pivot in 2017 to lend his professional skills towards improving the lives of others.
