3个常用单词的替换

Good – Can - many

英语写作初学者经重复出现很多基础的单词。这一周的课题就是如何将这些单词替换掉。首先我们有Old friends “good”  和 “bad”.

Good 可以替换成什么词汇呢？

Beneficial  - 有好处

During literature review stage, thinking critically and selecting references cautiously is extremely beneficial for researchers because ….

这里Beneficial 替代 Good 表示有好处的

Amazing – 令人惊异的

The analytical tools including paired sample T test and multiple linear regression achieved amazing results after researchers amend the database by deleting five outliers.

这里good被Amazing代替意思基本一样

Excellent / outstanding – 出色的

The statistical test shows that the introduction of the new textbook had an excellent/outstanding outcome, resulting in a significant increase in students’ grades

用excellent表示结果非常出色

Fabulous

Fabulous 除了好和出色，还有美丽的意思

The scenery is fabulous.

You did a fabulous job.

Gorgeous

Gorgeous一般有showy的意思。

The painting is gorgeous. 和fabulous用法很相近。

除了老的good，还有个常用的can

Can可以被be able to 和 be capable of 替代

Be able to do

Be capable of doing

Social scientists are able to test hypotheses by applying various statistical tests to derive a precise p-value which indicates the probability of type I error.

Ordinary students are capable of achieving their own dreams with adequate education resources and supports.

最后一个词是some/many/much

Many虽然口语中常用，写作时重复出现。

Some和Many 表示一些（多个）是可以用 several,multiple.

This policy has several/multiple benefits

如要强调many表示多的含义可以使用

A large number of / a considerable number of / a significant number of

表示非常多的词汇包括了

Myriads of

E.g. There are myriads of stars.

表示多的常用形容词

Countless

Abundant (也有充足的意思)

Diverse (多样的)

这些词汇的替换适用于应试，但是不代表学术写作时需要使用。有些词在学术和商务写作时会非常clumsy and redundant. 比如说 a large number of/ a considerable number of。写出来后会很累赘，但是对于应试来说，这些词汇会增加你的lexical diversity.
