Biography

 

Professor  Oreskovic is the Principal Investigator (PI) for the GLOBAL GRAND PROJECT (2017-2022). "Varenicline Versus Cytisine for Smoking Cesation" is a multicentric multidisciplinary study (find more on: https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT04015414),  comprising teams of clinical, behavioral and data science experts from Harvard Medical School - Massachusetts General Hospital,  University of Ljubljana and  University of Zagreb Faculty of Medicine. He is a Fellow at Harvard Medical School Department of Global Health & Social Medicine – Center for Bioethics (EXT) and at Institute of Coaching McLean Hospital Harvard Medical School Associate.  

Professor Oreskovic  is a founder and director of the World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for HIV Strategic Information, working with experts, scholars, and policymakers from 105 countries and educating more than 2600 students in the course of the last 15 years.  

He is a tenured professor at the University of Zagreb School of Medicine. He was  leading joint educational, research, and consultancy projects or teaching at  the LSE, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, HSPH, Bocconi, Trieste, and Ljubljana University as well as L'Ecole Nationale de Sante Publique  L’université Sorbonne-Paris-Cité. 

He Co-Chairs Data Science and the Right to Science Conference https://dibss.org/  aiming to develop a formatted interdisciplinary dialog between social, behavioral, and life scientist coming from a variety of disciplines (biology, bioinformatics, genetic medicine and neurosciences, sociology, psychology, bioethics and philosophy) to discuss, with representatives of international organizations and governments as well as other actors, including civil society movements, research networks and corporations, the possibility of a new framework for data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and its application to medical sciences and biotechnological advancements.

Throughout his career, he has authored 156 peer-reviewed papers with leading global publishers such as Springer Publishing, Elsevier Science, Wiley-Blackwell, and Pergamon Press, and has co-authored and contributed to 15 books published by John Wiley and Sons, VDM Verlag OmniScriptum, Cambridge University Press and others.  He also worked as a consultant for international organizations such as The World Bank, the EU Commission, and the World Health Organization.

Professor Oreskovic is best known for his projects fostering innovative health care interventions in the area of tobacco control, obesity prevention, internet addiction and HIV surveillance. His projects were featured in the Lancet and the BMJ and quoted or contributed to the  leading international media, including Huffington Post, Reuters, CNN, BBC, NBC, and RTL, among others.
