English as a Second Language Teacher and ESL Department head at CATS Academy
A native speaker of Russian, Lucy LaVallee received her M.A. in English from M. Thorez Moscow State Pedagogical Institute of Foreign Languages. She taught heritage and non-heritage high school students at Buckingham Browne and Nichols School (BB&N) in Braintree, MA, directed the oldest in the country Exchange Program between BB&N and Moscow sister school #01232, organized trips to Moscow and St. Petersburg. She was a member of Board of Directors Camps
for Children of Chernobyl, where she worked closely with terminally ill children from Russia and Belarus, provided liaison between hosting families and Camp staff by aiding in communication and assisting with translation. Ms. LaVallee incorporates technology in her language classes. Ms. LaVallee attended workshops and seminars organized by American Councils for International Education, Bureau of Education and Research, Moscow State University and others. In the summer of 2017, Ms. LaVallee successfully conducted a number of lessons and co-facilitated some activities with the Lead Instructors at STARTALK: Bridges to Russia at Harvard University Program.
