Dr. Paulina De Santis

Dr. De Santis holds a Ph.D. in Second Language Acquisition from Tulane University and a M.A. in Teaching Foreign Languages from Ivanovo State University, Russia. She currently serves as Professor and Senior Academic Specialist at the Office of the Senior Associate Provost for Academic Support Faculty Development Division, Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC). Dr. De Santis has 20 years of experience in teaching Russian as a foreign language and more than 7 years of teaching heritage speakers of Russian from different former Soviet republics, administering Oral Proficiency Interviews (OPIs), and conducting certification observations of Russian language instructors ensuring quality of training materials and approaches. As a Senior Academic Specialist, Dr. De Santis serves as a professional resource for academic programs at DLIFLC, implements quality assurance and train-the-trainer processes, monitors curricula and course projects, designs and facilitates teachertraining workshops and seminars for DLIFLC Russian faculty, including Implementing Diagnostic Teaching and Differentiated Instruction in Teaching Russian, Principles of Communicative and Task-Based Foreign Language Instruction, Developing Advanced Language Proficiency in Upper Division Classes, Developing Russian Language Proficiency via Debates, to name a few. Dr. De Santis received Commandant’s Certificate of Appreciation (2017), Coin of Excellence (2015), and Provost’s Team Excellence Awards.
