Use results of your AAPPL test to receive Seal of Biliteracy at Massachusetts
Starting in 2019, CRLS will offer the Seal of Biliteracy to eligible students who have achieved proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation. The Seal of Biliteracy was first offered in California in 2008 and has been implemented in a majority of states over the past decade, resulting in increasing recognition across the country both by universities and potential employers. The Seal of Biliteracy, which is affixed to school transcripts, is an official state recognition of achievement in languages. In Massachusetts, the purpose of the Seal is to: “Encourage students to study and master languages; certify attainment of biliteracy skills; recognize the value of language diversity; provide employers with a method of identifying people with language and biliteracy skills; provide universities with a method to recognize and give credit to applicants for the attainment of high-level skills in languages; prepare students with skills that will benefit them in the labor market and the global society; and strengthen intergroup communication and honor the multiple cultures and languages in a community” (Source – MA Guidelines).
