Junichi Tokuda, Ph.D., Principal Investigator

Junichi Tokuda is a research scientist at the Department of Radiology, Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH), Boston, MA. He is specialized in the development and clinical translation of novel software and robotics technologies for image-guided interventions. At BWH, he works with his clinical collaborators primarily on MRI-guided interventions of pelvic and abdominal organs. As a Principal Investigator, he is leading several research projects which are funded by the National Institutes of Health and industry. Before he joined the BWH/HMS community in 2007, he received undergraduate and graduate training at the University of Tokyo, Japan, and obtained a B.S. in Engineering and M.S. and Ph.D. in Information and Science and Technology. He is currently an Associate Professor of Radiology at Harvard Medical School.

Pedro Moreira, Ph.D., Instructor in Radiology

Pedro Moreira is a research scientist at the Department of Radiology, Brigham and Women's Hospital, and an Instructor in Radiology at the Harvard Medical School. His research's primary focus has been the development of robotic systems for medical applications, particularly in robot-assisted percutaneous procedures and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI)-guided procedures.

Mariana Bernardes, Ph.D., Research Fellow

Mariana C. Bernardes is a Researcher Fellow in Radiology at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) and Harvard Medical School. She is specialized in medical robotics and her research is focused on robot-assisted minimally invasive procedures, particularly in laparoscopy and image-guided percutaneous interventions. Before joining the BWH, she received a B.S. in Mechatronics Engineering and a M.S. in Electrical Engineering from University of Brasilia, and a Ph.D in Automation and Microelectronic Systems from University of Montpellier. She was an Assistant Professor at the University of Brasilia from 2015 to 2021, where she co-founded the Laboratory for Testing of Electromedical Devices and Systems (LENSE).
