Hello! I'm a PhD student in the Moral Psychology Research Lab.

I study how people and machines learn to do the right thing in uncertain, changing, or ambiguous contexts. I'm deeply interested in the power of compassion, machine intelligence, and institutions to build a better world. I also love music, travel, poetry, and rowing.

Previously, I read Psychology and Philosophy at Oxford, where I researched empathy and deep learning theory. I then worked at McKinsey's London office, where I served public and private sector clients on strategy, organisation design, and data/analytics topics.

Please feel free to get in touch with me at xavierrobertsgaal [at] g [dot] harvard [dot] edu, on LinkedIn, or via Twitter.
